Buying a Used Desktop Computer

Purchasing any desktop computer is a big decision process, but buying a used desktop computer is an even more weighty decision.  It is recommended that if you decide to purchase a desktop computer, you should purchase one new, as you can avoid any problems that are frequently associated with purchasing a used desktop computer.  Nonetheless, if buying a used desktop computer is your only option, you should take a few things into consideration to avoid hassles and headaches in the future.

First things first; if you are considering buying a used desktop computer, shop around and see if you can’t purchase a new desktop computer at the price you want to pay for a used one.  You would be surprised by some of the deals that desktop computer manufacturers offer.  You can easily purchase a brand new desktop computer for the same or a little more money than you would spend on a used desktop computer and if you can get a new desktop computer for the price of a used desktop computer, why would you want to do anything else?

Second, if you have no alternative but to partake in buying a used desktop computer, then by all means do so.  Just make sure that you have shopped around before you begin buying a used desktop computer.  In other words, don’t jump on the opportunity to buy a used desktop computer the minute you find one that falls into your predetermined price range.  When you shop around before buying a used desktop computer, you afford yourself the opportunity to find a better desktop computer for your money.

Third, try to buy your used desktop computer from a company that will back up their product with some kind of warranty.  There is nothing worse than buying a used desktop computer only to find that when it arrives at your house it doesn’t function and the person that sold it to you has sold it to you “as is”. At that point, you have just failed at buying a used desktop computer of any quality and all you have managed to accomplish is to buy yourself a huge hassle!

Fourthly, when buying a used desktop computer, make absolutely certain that you are getting everything you paid for.  In other words, when buying a used desktop computer, make sure that you get all of the original software and licensing agreements that should come with the used desktop computer.  Such software is vital to have in the horrific event that something should happen to any of the software applications, including and especially the operating system.  Without the original discs and licensing information, you will be unable to repair your desktop computer!

Likewise, when buying a used desktop computer, be sure that you receive all of the manuals that accompany the desktop computer.  Many of the manuals have the licensing codes right in the manuals and without them, you will be unable to reregister any software you may have to reinstall for any reason on your desktop computer.  Plus, the manuals are an excellent resource if you should ever encounter any problems with your desktop computer; therefore, be sure that they are included with your used desktop computer purchase.

Finally, when buying a used desktop computer, keep a record of all of your transactions.  It is imperative that you keep all of your receipts in a safe place when buying a used desktop computer.  Such receipts may help you get refunded in the event that your used desktop doesn’t meet your expectations.  Also, if you are running a business and you use your used desktop computer for such purposes, your receipts will prove useful at tax time.
