Shaving... Yes that thoroughly un-interesting everyday chore that you know has to be done  !

Unbelievably though shaving does actually have its advantages. Apparently a recent research indicates men who shave regularly are far more likely to have sex than men who don't.  Now is that good enough reason to get your razor out ?

Problems with this morning ritual can cause reactions in the skin from razor rashes, burns to dry sore flaky skin.  Here's top 10 shaving tips

1. Try to avoid shaving first thing in the morning , I know this is not always possible, but is can help if you let your skin wake up first. This allows any "puffiness" that can build up from fluids collecting in your skin during the night.  This is a Top Tip to get a closer shave !

2. Exfoliate with a facial cleanser or scrub to remove dead skin cells and open up the pores of the skin to prepare it for a close shave.

3. Wet a flannel with warm/hot water and place over stubble before shaving. This swells the hair shaft allowing the blade to cut the hair,  and not your skin.

4. Thoroughly massage shaving cream into the stubble. Try using a vitamin A or Aloe Vera based shaving cream that will help a close soothing shave and also help protect your skin against razor rashes or burns.

5. Change your blades regularly and keep them sharp.  Blunt blades cause friction on the skin and is responsible for shaving rash and cuts.  This is caused as the blunt blade drags over your skin and catches your skin along with the hairs.

6. Rinse often in hot water when shaving and use slow short strokes. Never rush this is when you need to take your time.

7. Shaving against the natural hair growth direction (against the grain) can cause redness, skin rashes, razor burn and in growing hairs, which are very painful.  It is always best to shave with the natural  hair growth direction (with the grain).

8. After shaving, gently apply an oil-free moisturizer to help cool and sooth the face. If you use after-shave check the label for alcohol. Dryness and stinging sensations are caused by-products whose primary ingredient is alcohol. It may feel good at the time, but the alcohol based after-shaves actually irritate many complexions.

9. Mentholated shaving products give you that "cool" sensation that feels good on the face, but menthol, like alcohol, can also be irritating to the skin.

10. Lots of foam or lather is not required for a good shave.  Many store shave creams contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate . This is produced to "foam up" the product  however, it is also an irritant that may be the cause of skin problems.
